A significant portion of your $35 dues goes towards the grievance process: filing, investigation, hearings, and potential mediation or arbitration. Enforcing the CBA through the grievance procedure is worth its weight in gold - and while we have some of the lowest dues in the industry, we are still able to accomplish this goal.
The grievance procedure can be lengthy, and you may not be remedied right away. Before you submit a Contract Violation form, please try to solve issues at a Local level with Base Supervisors, Payroll, Leave Coordinators, etc., by sending an email or using the correct Company resource. This creates a paper trail that the Grievance Committee can follow and use as evidence and allows the Company to resolve issues ahead of a grievance. Here are a few pro-tips:
If you speak with a Supervisor either in person or over the phone, always follow up with a recap email detailing what was talked about and any action items for either party.
When communicating with the Company via email, please always CC your personal email and your TWU Local 579 Base Executive for awareness (for example, JFK@579twu.org or BOS@579twu.org).
Friendly reminder: The company email servers auto-delete emails after 90 days unless saved. Any pertinent details to your employment (i.e., pay rate selections, benefits changes, etc) should be forwarded to your personal email for safekeeping.
If you make a Rainmaker comment, please always screenshot Payroll's response and keep it handy.
